Ontogenes and Chromosome Nondisjunction in the D. melanogaster Meiosis

چکیده
A mutation in an ontogene acts as a conditional dominant lethal: it is lethal certain genotype but not another. In total, 30 mutations of this type residing the Drosophila melanogaster X chromosome have been assayed for their ability to cause meiotic nondisjunction. The level nondisjunction females heterozygous appears be very high. share matroclinous daughters reaches 24.7% overall offspring and patroclinous males, 24.9%. Neither inversion opposite nor additional Y has any effect on balance XX X0 egg cells disturbed: exceptional are prevalent with normal sons, inverted chromosome. addition, 12% homozygous marker one maternal chromosomes (“equational” nondisjunction). “fading” parental also observed. Under experimental conditions, mutant ontogenes reside densely compacted chromosomes. We infer that DNA regions controlled compaction. It postulated genetic activity determined by compaction biophysical (electromagnetic) nature. cell, induce physical fields providing operation proteins. structure these distorted mutants ontogenes, thereby decreasing efficiency proteins and, consequence, causing defects.

Chromosome Dynamics in Meiosis
Meiosis encompasses a large number of dynamic processes. Some of them are biochemical, such as formation and repair of meiotic double-strand breaks, while others are physical in nature, such as homologous chromosome segregation in anaphase I. Plants have been used as model species in meiosis studies for over 80 years. However, the past decade brought a dramatic improvement in the understanding ...
متن کاملRegional control of nondisjunction of the B chromosome in maize.
Control of nondisjunction in the maize B chromosome was studied using a set of B-10 translocations. The study focused on the possible effect of the proximal region of the B long arm. The experimental procedure utilized a combination of a 10(B) chromosome from one translocation with a B(10) from another translocation. The breakpoints of the two translocations were so located that combination of ...
متن کاملChromosome segregation in plant meiosis
Faithful chromosome segregation in meiosis is essential for ploidy stability over sexual life cycles. In plants, defective chromosome segregation caused by gene mutations or other factors leads to the formation of unbalanced or unreduced gametes creating aneuploid or polyploid progeny, respectively. Accurate segregation requires the coordinated execution of conserved processes occurring through...

متن کاملChromosome cohesion in mitosis and meiosis.
During mitosis and meiosis sister chromatids are held together by protein complexes. This cohesion is important not only for pairwise alignment of chromosomes on the mitotic spindle but also for the generation of tension across centromeres – it counteracts the pulling force of spindle microtubules, which ensures the bipolar attachment of chromosomes. Chromosome cohesion thus enables accurate ch...
